
Faith, Family and Friends…that about says it all. If you have all three of these things and in that order…life is good. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago, the social worker asked me if I had a support system. Faith, family and friends was my three-word answer.
My father had surgery for colon cancer in the winter of 2002. As I am driving that day of surgery over the mountains into the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, a song came on the radio that mentioned these three words. They were perfect for that day. I was comforted with these words.
Driving down Rt. 29 after September 11th for Parent’s Weekend at our daughter’s college in North Carolina, I saw a scripture painted on an old board that was nailed to a telephone pole. John 3:16…how perfect! Many died that day, but will never perish from our thoughts and prayers. 
I wanted to do something special for my sister ,Helen, on this Valentine’s Day. I’ve seen a lot of “sister” charts, but I wanted mine to be a little different.
My friend, Pam, and I walk a lot. You can cover a lot of subjects in an hour. We have tried to solve a lot of the world’s problems and our own “little” problems during this time together. Pam came across this writing during one of her devotional readings. 
This ornament was stitched for my Aunt Anne for her birthday. Each motif has a special meaning. The heart obviously represents love. The four birds represent her four children, Karen, Bill, Amy and David. The lower left bird also represents her beloved pet cockatiel.
The Rev. Dr. John Lown was our interim minister at Leesburg Presbyterian Church for about four years. When I had breast cancer in 1999, he came by one afternoon and we just talked. He was a very good listener that day
